Stray Animals

Dogs and livestock in Austin and Travis County are required by law to be safely restrained on the owner’s property at all times, except when a dog is in a designated leash-free area.

Cats are not required to be confined or leashed. Roaming cats will not be picked by Animal Control.

Call 3-1-1 to report unsupervised wandering pets or livestock. If you can without putting yourself at risk, try to confine a stray animal in a fenced yard or other enclosure while an officer comes to the area.
